ELMER GRIFFITH A meeting will be held Sunday, Jan. 10, at 2 o'clock at the Congre gational church in lone to discuss plans for a community church. All who are interested in the church work of our community are urged to attend. A pot luck dinner will be held at noon. This is announced by Geneva Palmer, clerk of the Baptist church; Mattie Ray, acting clerk of the Christian church, and Marjorie Baker, clerk of the Con gregational church. Bert Mason, district chairman of the committee of the infantile paral ysis fund, has appointed the follow ing to serve with him: For the Ma sons, Elmer Griffith; for the East ern Star, Mrs. Henry Smouse; for the Rebekahs, Mrs. Matthew Gor don; for the I. O. O. F., P. J. Linn; and for the grange, E. M. Baker. They will meet in the near future to make plans for raising money. Mrs. Kittie G. Turner of La Grande, returned to her home Tu esday after a two weeks' visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. Elmer Griffith. Correction: Bert Johnson is the newly installed secretary of the A. F. & A. M. The Womens Topic club met Fri day at the home of Mrs. J. E. Swan son. Assisting her were Mesdames Omar Rietmann, Garland Swanson, and Dorr Mason. The book, "I Mar ried Adventure," by Osa Johnson, was ably reviewed by Mrs. Riet mann and Mrs. Mason. Members and guests present were Mrs. C. W. Swanson, Frank Lundell, Mrs. Hen ry Gorger, Mrs. E. R. Lundell, Mrs. E. M. Baker, Miss Emmer Maynard, Mrs. , Milton Morgan, Mrs. Hugh Smith, Mrs. Clyde Denny, Mrs. M. E. Cotten, Mrs. Mary Cunningham, Mrs. Kittie Turner and Mrs. Elmer Griffith. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Keithley and children left Sunday for their home in Baker. They have been here to visit Mr. Keithley's mother, Mrs. Eunice Keithley, who is quite ill, and Mrs. Keithley's mother, Mrs. Ida Grabil. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swanson entertained Sunday with a dinner and games in honor of Franklin Lindstrom's birthday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lindstrom and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Burke, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hummel and son, Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks and son, and Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stefani and son. O. E. Peterson and Henry Baker departed Tuesday for Corvallis on business in connection with the farm program. Icy roads Monday and Tuesday curtailed activities in this vicinity. Several trucks which loaded at the Walter Rietmann ranch on Tuesday had to be pulled out by caterpillar. A. meeting was held at the schoolhouse Wednesday evening. Visitors here Wednesday were Father Francis McCormick of Hepp ner, Sister M. Presintina and Sister Rose Mary of Baker. Carl Whillock motored to Con don Saturday to get the stalled car belonging to Kenneth and Elwynne Peck. He brought it here to the garage. E. D. McMillan is visiting at the heme of his daughter, Maud Pom eroy, in Ostrander, Wash. Robert Davidson of lone was in town Thursday. Chuck Shriever is working at the Sam Turner ranch. Mrs. Bernard Doherty and daugh ter returned home from the Hepp ner hospital this week. Mrs. Don Pointer is staying with them. W. A. Zinter and M. J. Fitzpat rick were in town Monday. Maxine Devine returned to St. Joseph's academy in Pendleton Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Acklen of Madras were week-end visitors at the Harry Dinges home. Their daughter, Ruthann, remained for a visit with her grandparents. r George Peck was a Portland vis itor last week. May Rauch spent Monday night with Doris Scott. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rauch, May and Fay, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Al Fetsch at the Cox ranch above Heppner. Helen Breshears and Everett Crump were Saturday evening guests at the Carl Whillock home. Earl Warner and Ralph Jackson visited in Portland last week. Mary Hunt and Amanda Duvall Were hostesses for a "500" party Saturday evening. Refreshments were served at the close of the eve ning to the 32 guests. Doris Klinger suffered a broken ankle Tuesday, which resutled from a fall on the ice.
